Technical Designer - Women's Separates

****THIS POSITION IS FOR RELOCATION******

To interpret and translate the vision of the Designer into technical specifications for the production of garments. Provide technical expertise in the evaluation of samples for compliance to requested specifications, styling and construction. Review and give recommendation and direction regarding specs, fit, construction and grading issues. Communicate daily with in house teams and vendors regarding all issues pertinent to accurate execution of samples throughout development process.

Core Accountabilities:

  • Coordinate with Design, Product Development and Quality
    Assurance in the development and maintenance of technical specification
    packages for garments from 1st proto to production.
  • Document all data required to produce correct proto, counter and
    production Samples.
  • Oversee block development; advise and assist in house and
    factory pattern makers in the creation new blocks as needed.
  • Direct & lead fit sessions of assigned product category on live model
    or dress form taking initiative as the expert in fit. Correct and advise
    how to meet the design aesthetic while maintaining the appropriate fit.
  • Be knowledgeable of your assigned product line with ability to
    communicate the history of each garment as well as general fit and
    specification history of the product category.
  • Direct technical specification reviews with Design, Product
    Development, Quality Assurance, and Merchandising, prior to costing spec
    package send out.
  • Review and approve incoming counter samples verifying execution
    against requested specifications, styling and construction.
  • Identify, document and effectively communicate needed changes to
    pattern, spec, and construction to vendors via specification packages,
    pattern diagrams, photos or directly on pattern as needed to ensure
    corrections are accurately followed.
  • Identify potential production, quality and costing issues making
    recommendations to Design, Merchandising and Quality Assurance in order to
    ensure brand integrity.
  • Make recommendations regarding fit, sizing & construction issues
    for production to vendors and product disposition.
  • Assist in managing the adherence to product Timing and Action
    calendars during development and pre-production process.
  • Give input regarding the lowering of the overall return rate by
    developing & maintaining consistent size specifications, comparing
    representative samples of each garment to those specifications versus
    customer return reasons, documenting results.
  • Support department workload by assisting other Technical
    Designers as needed.
  • Follow current market trends especially in fit and styling to enhance
    knowledge and therefore affect overall product fit, quality and salability.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of garment construction, patternmaking, fit,
    and grading. Experience with womenswear is preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a global, multi-cultural environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills for building working relationships
    within teams
  • Strong time management and organizational skills to establish
    priorities and meet specific timelines
  • Ability to proactively trouble shoot and problem solve.
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Focus on drawing software, commercial specification software,
    Excel and Word is highly desired

Education/Experience Required:

  • Five or more years work experience in garment manufacturing,
    product development, and specification development
  • Two-year technical degree with apparel focus, desired
